DRIVING:  From San Jose to Santa Teresa/Mal Pais takes around 6 hours including the hour long ferry ride across the beautiful Gulf of Nicoya.

OLD HIGHWAY: From the Juan Santamaria international airport in Alajuela, take the highway heading toward San Ramon.  Continue passed San Ramon following signs for Puntarenas.

NEW HIGHWAY:  Take the new highway leaving Escazu for Caldera.  When you arrive to Caldera, follow the signs to Puntarenas.

FROM PUNTARENAS: Drive to the very end of Puntarenas and follow the road around to the ferry.  Take the ferry to Paquera (you will need to park your car in the line while you buy your tickets) and then proceed towards Cobano.   From Cobano just follow the signs on the dirt road to Santa Teresa/ Mal Pais.   At the cross roads of Mal Pais /Santa Teresa, go right about 2 km.  On the right side will be Plaza Solar, the entrance is down the side road behind the plaza


LOCAL FLIGHTS: Flying from San Jose to Tambor takes around 30 minutes and then you will need to take a taxi another 45 minutes to VIllas Solar. We will gladly arrange transportation from San Jose or Liberia directly to Villas Solar. Contact us for flight information and reservations.

BUS: Pick up the bus at the San Carlos bus station in downtown San Jose direct to Mal Pais/Santa Teresa. The bus fee is around $12/person. The trip takes around 6 hours in total.  Once you have arrived to the cross roads, continue on the bus about 2 KM north into Santa Teresa and get off in front of Plaza Solar (across from Brunellas).  Villas Solar is located around back of the Plaza.
